Project finance for infrastructure

“Without the trust and support that DEG gave us, we would not have been able to develop and construct our wind farm in Jordan.”

Daniel Calderon Co-founder and CEO of solar and wind power developer Alcazar Energy

Countries need functional infrastructure if they are to develop. Sustainable development is hardly possible without transport routes or telecommunications, without a water and power supply. But often the costs of such major infrastructure projects exceed the government’s financial resources. Private sector institutions can play a part in sustainably improving the infrastructure. To secure project finance, enterprises investing in such schemes need partners who commit for the long term. We advise our customers, contribute our in-depth knowledge and support them for the entire term of their involvement. Together, we develop financing solutions that are viable for the long term and can be flexibly structured.

If required, we can arrange large volumes and involve additional investors. Project developers also benefit from our extensive sector and industry know-how and wide-ranging network. Our special focus is on the investments’ sustainability.

DEG arranges loan-based financing for biggest solar farm in the Caribbean

DEG arranged a long-term loan of USD 62 million for the operating company Montecristi Solar FV S.A.S. to fund the development of a solar farm. DEG's own share amounts to around USD 20 million. Euskirchen-based F&S Solar is involved both as project developer and investor.

Despite having a good geographical location for solar power, to date the Dominican Republic has been largely dependent on imported fossil fuels. The Montecristi solar farm makes an important contribution towards the development of a sustainable energy supply. Montecristi has a capacity of 116 MW. It will be providing environmentally friendly electric power to around 100,000 households whilst eliminating around 108,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. During the development, a biodiversity concept was developed and implemented with the "Jardin Botanico Nacional" in accordance with international standards.

“With its international experience, DEG was key to success. That enabled us to develop this new market. To do so, it was important for us to bring on board proven German partners.”
