We finance, advise and support enterprises and financial services providers that operate in developing markets. Our customers come from developing and emerging-market countries as well as from Germany and other industrialised nations. They want to open up new markets, invest in green-field initiatives, are planning investments in expansion, or propose to set up subsidiaries or joint ventures.

The financing and advisory services we offer are as wide-ranging as the investments. They are tailored to our customer’s needs and can be flexibly adapted. In discussion with our customers, we devise appropriate, viable solutions for each of them.

Good advice right from the start

Even before an investment has been made, we are able to provide businesses with specific advice and support. To that end, we co-finance feasibility studies, environmental studies, legal opinions or market analyses.

We are also able to support environmental and qualification measures, pilot plants and measures promoting the spread of climate-friendly technologies with funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

German and local SMEs with an innovative business model that are willing to invest in developing countries receive the funding they need for their further development via our “Up-scaling” programme.

Far-sighted financing

­Our customers receive long-term financing in various currencies, including local currencies such as Brazilian real, Indian rupees, Philippine pesos and South African rand. Alongside loans, we also provide mezzanine capital and equity investments. Our financing products feature long repayment terms, flexible, risk-commensurate structuring and collateralisation. If necessary, we involve additional finance providers. We also arrange large volumes in cooperation with other investors, acting as a central point of contact for our customers. As an anchor investor we also invest in sustainability-linked bonds issued by established companies and banks in developing countries.

Our customers can rely on our in-depth market knowledge, our networks and our continuous commitment. As a strong partner, we will be at their side throughout the lifetime of their investment – and that includes more difficult times. Even if conditions change, we will find solutions that help to improve stability and create a foundation for further investments. Because we know from experience that virtually every long-term investment is subject to change – and how to handle it successfully.

Additionally we help them boost their business performance and enhance the development impact of their investments with our Business Support Services (BSS). BSS operate in the fields of corporate governance, environmental and social governance, efficient resource and energy management, working capital optimisation, risk management as well as staff and supplier training. Some of the costs can be met by DEG.
