2022 is a special year for DEG: 14 September marks the 60th anniversary of our founding. We have been financing and assisting private companies in developing countries since 1962. Started in Cologne with just a few staff, today around 650 employees at 19 locations worldwide are committed to supporting companies generating sustainable success.

Working with our customers and partners to find solutions for a changing world has been DEG’s mission and aspiration since the beginning. Global challenges such as climate change, megatrends such as digitalisation and higher sustainability requirements are changing markets and potential in many regions. Adapting quickly to new conditions is a vital success factor for many companies.

In 2021, DEG made a conscious decision to focus even more on high-impact and climate-friendly investments to enable future-oriented, sustainable development. We have committed ourselves to providing targeted financing and advice to companies tackling the transformation so that they remain resilient and continue to succeed in the future.

Current developments and disruptions only strengthen our resolve to continue on this course: in these times we are experiencing dynamic changes that impact on developing countries in particular. What can companies do to address worsening climate change, how can a long-term, sustainable energy supply be assured, how should disruptive changes in the globalised economy be managed, what opportunities do digital business models offer to people and companies – these are a few of the areas where action is called for.

The new edition of the DEG e-paper explains how we are dealing with these topics and what drives us – and offers a variety of insights into how we work with our customers.
